Biography:
Gillian Moore
Head of Contemporary Culture
Southbank Centre
Gillian Moore is Head of Contemporary Culture at Southbank Centre, London. She began her career in 1983, as Education Officer with the London Sinfonietta, the first such post of its kind in the UK.
During this time, Gillian also served on the government working group which devised the National Curriculum in music.
Gillian was Artistic Director of the ISCM World Music Days in Manchester in 1998, and held the post of Artistic Director of the London Sinfonietta from 1998-2006. She is Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Music and broadcasts regularly on Radio 3 and BBC Television.
Gillian has received The Sir Charles Groves Award for services to British Music, the ABO award for outstanding contribution to British orchestral life and honorary diplomas from all three major London Conservatoires. She was created an MBE in 1994 and, in 2006, received an Honorary Doctorate from Brunel University. In 2007 Gillian received the Leslie Boosey Award for outstanding contribution to contemporary music in the UK.
She is a Governor of the Royal College of Music and a Council Member of the Royal Philharmonic Society.
